The problem with meditation is attachment. We get in
the habit of needing our altar, favorite cushion,
incense, CD, certain time of day, necessary length of
time, or particular style of sitting. If we can’t do
it the “right” way, we tend to skip it altogether. We
get so attached to the trappings that we get a little
testy if we don’t have everything just so.

This is funny when you think about it. In Buddhism,
the core belief is that life is full of suffering, and
this suffering is due to attachment. Isn’t it ironic
that we become so attached to the idea of meditation?
Isn’t it a bit absurd to think of followers of
particular styles of meditation as obsessive about
their own approach?

I find it hilarious.

I also find it destructive.

I’m all for whatever works. If committing to a ritual
is right for you, by all means, light that candle. If
you must do some yoga exercises prior to sitting, go
for it. If you need to go for a run before chanting,
be my guest.

However, if you find that your concept of what you need
in order to meditate is hindering instead of liberating
you, it’s time to take a look at what I refer to as
“wireless” meditation.

The beautiful thing about going wireless—-whether it’s
with phones, computers, or your own quest for
mindfulness—-is that you suddenly become unencumbered
by extraneous connections. You can continue with your
day. You can go anywhere. You are free.

Just as a wireless phone allows you to think of your
workplace in a whole new way, mindfulness practice
gives you the opportunity to bring attention to
whatever you’re doing. Your connection to your mind
and your heart is hooked up while you’re taking a
shower, washing the dishes, walking the dog, or tending
your garden. You no longer see mindfulness as
something you can do only if you’re sitting in your
family room before the kids get up.

For those who’ve given up on meditation, consider the
freedom of mindfulness practice. Here are five
questions to ask yourself in order to stay connected
anywhere, anytime:

* “What can I notice this minute?” Look around. What
do you see? What colors pop? What kind of light fills
your space? What do you smell? What do you hear? How
does your body feel right now?

* “Where can I focus my attention this minute?”
Choose something within you—-a physical sensation, a
thought, an emotion. Or, go outside your skin and
shine all of your attention upon something around you.
Spend one minute in full discovery mode.

* “What can I do to connect with this person?” If
you’re a parent and you’re feeling a little burned out
by your child’s demands, stop thinking about how to
fulfill a request and focus on how to fulfill a need.
Can you give loving attention without giving a thing?
Can you focus your full attention on your partner in
the way most likely to make them feel cherished?

* “How can I bring more mindfulness to this task?”
Whether you’re filing, copying documents, folding
laundry, or scrubbing the bathtub, you can focus
intently and intensely upon your particular task. Take
note of the textures. Pay attention to edges, creases,
folds, warmth, texture, and color. Focus on the
muscles you’re using in each step of the process. Feel
the bending, flexing, and stretching your body must do
to perform each movement.

* “How can I find more meaning in this moment?” In
every moment, we have the opportunity to connect to
what matters most. We can choose to find a reason to
feel grateful, content, secure, uplifted, and cared

Going wireless means you can choose to connect whenever
you like. Find ways to tap into mindfulness without
becoming attached to meditation.

Do you ever feel there is an inner voice speaking to you, telling you that you’re not very good, or you can’t do it, or there’s just not enough confidence and repertoire with you? This is the voice that calls itself “I” right? Let’s refer to this as Self 1, and Self 2 as the normal you, the real you that has the masses of potential.


Self 1 is our interference and concepts such as our judgements, associations, how things should be and uses words such as “should” and “shouldn’t”. Have you ever noticed that? For example, “you shouldn’t play there tonight because the audience are just going to laugh at you.” Self 2 is the large reservoir of potential within each one of us. It’s our natural abilities and talents and the unlimited resource we can tap into and develop. If it’s on it’s own, it can perform with gracefulness and ease.


The equation is simple. The more you minimise Self 1, the better Self 2 performs. Therefore, the more you work on things like your confidence, practice, and performance, conquering that silly inner voice, the better you will play and enjoy it.
It’s good to be aware of how Self 1 came into the act so that you can notice it and conquer it when necessary. At a young age, children are great natural learners. The first eight years of their lives are crucial as this is when they are in an open space and receptive to different things that come in front of them. What we’re taught by our first teachers – our parents – is Self 2 but gradually is changed as we are open to a wider audience. We begin to collect ideas, attitudes, concepts and other beliefs and draw our own conclusions which get Self 1 in the act as it tells Self 2 that it’s wrong. As a life coach for musicians, my purpose is to help musicians regain that natural talent and ability they hold within them.


Self 1 always tries to attract our attention away from the music we are playing or listening to, like a child interrupting their parent in a conversation just because he wants something. It’s very difficult, or nearly impossible, to just demolish Self 1, but you can change your focus, making it difficult for that Self 1 voice.
To begin coping with our Self 1, recognize that it’s not just going to get up and go away. As it talks to us, we have a natural tendency to talk back – just like any other conversation. Not only is Self 1 talking, but our natural responses are getting in the way. You don’t have to talk back to Self 1, so don’t do it. By focusing on a particular part of the music such as the notes, sounds, sights, the way in which we are involved in the music, something that’s happening in the present, etc.


That’s the best technique you’ll ever get and every great musician will tell you what the power of focus has in music. This article forms as a basic introduction into Self 1 and Self 2 so that you become more aware of it, and can understand what to do.

The Top 10 Creative Strategies for Moving into Action and For Getting Bottom Line Results

Your ability to move into action and to achieve bottom line results rests in the power of your thinking. These ten strategies will support you in transforming your desires into concrete action.

1. Expose your fears.

Fear is a gift that was given to us at birth as a means of protection and to provide us with safety from harm. This innate fear often becomes distorted, and as adults, we begin to react with anxiety, sabotage, and self-defeating behaviors. Ask yourself this question: “What is my main fear? Is it fear of rejection, commitment, loss, change, or of growing up?” Once you have identified this fear, speak it out loud to one person and write it down on paper. Once you expose your fear, it is very possible to break through its control over your life.

2. Identify Your Beliefs.

Our belief system is formulated in numerous ways through our environment, family, friends, society, religion, the media, politics, and cultural influences. Quite often, negative beliefs can cause us to act in ways that actually repel success. Do you believe that “Money is evil” or “To be successful, you have to work way too hard,” or “Girls should be seen and not heard?” If so, you may be pushing away the thing that you most want in life. By identifying your negative beliefs and replacing them with beliefs that empower you, you will begin moving in a direction of lifelong success.

3. Assess your communication style using the DISC.

The DISC is a fantastic assessment tool which provides individuals with a nonjudgmental language for exploring behavior. One of the key foundations of personal and professional success lies in understanding yourself and realizing the impact that your behavior has on your life and the lives of others. They knew that the key to their success was in their ability to rely on each other for feedback, ideas, accountability, and above all…support! These men controlled much of the industry of the United States during the height of their careers. Innovation and expansion in human thought often result from teams that mentally capitalize on the principle of collaborative thinking. 8. Be devoted to extreme self-care.

When your goal is mastery, you will be devoted to finding better ways to deliver what you offer, you will be expanding your knowledge, and you will find yourself achieving much more than you ever thought was possible.

It seems the world of Internet marketing is changing
rapidly. There are so many new twists and turns every day.
How do we keep up with everything?

A Sense of Humor Helps!

I know it’s hard to laugh when you receive 200 or more spam
messages in your email every day. But what’s the
alternative? Hit the delete key or find an anti-spam
program that works.

A friend passed on word of ChoiceMail to me and it’s the
easiest thing to use that I’ve found. What’s more ~ I don’t
have any spam in my mailbox since I installed it! Now
that’s something to smile about. If you want to check it

using the free version and it works just fine.

It’s even harder to find something to laugh about when your
business mail is being blocked. Sometimes this is the fault
of filters but other times those all-knowing ISP’s just
decide our subs or clients REALLY don’t want to get our
mail even though they’ve requested it.

Now that is just not a laughing matter. It affects the way
we do business and has an impact on our success. Lots of
people are working on ways to correct this problem (and not
all of them are interested in charging us huge fees to
guarantee delivery of our mail).

For the time being we have to take it in stride and keep
working our business. This is just one more obstacle that
has to be overcome; it is NOT the end of the Internet
marketing world.

Stay Positive!

The worst thing you can do is let all this negative stuff
affect your attitude. If you give in to frustration, if you
throw up your hands and say, “This is just too much; I
can’t deal with it anymore” you may as well close the doors
of your business.

If you want to survive the changes and achieve your goals
now is the time to step up your efforts. Focus on your
business, not on all the obstacles. Remodel your website,
freshen your copy. Start a new marketing campaign. Keep
your name out there while your competitors are still
whining and wringing their hands.

Now is not the time to slough off and put that “Gone
Fishing” sign on your door! Many of your competitors will
do just that. Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity
to make giant strides toward your own success. Since change
is inevitable . . . use it to improve your position in the
marketplace.

When the Dust Settles . . .

If you stay focused on your goals while many others are
running around like the proverbial “chicken with its head
cut off”, who’s going to end up the winner?

Change can be a good thing; don’t let the fear of it
paralyze you. What’s more, don’t let it defeat you! If you
want to succeed you have to adapt to the changes and move
on . . . always toward your goals.
