Do The Write Thing ©2003 Dr. Donald Schnell

Dear Colleague,

Here is one of the real, hidden secrets of those who
consistently produce product: make inviolate
appointments with yourself to write. You most likely do a fairly
good job at keeping the appointments you make with others.
You have mastered this skill, so why not use it to get
things done?

For example, I have to write the Spiritual Java course,
the Dream Achievers course, the daily Winning Edge,
my coaching practice, there’s another
novel I’m working on, a newsletter in a different field, seminar
planning etc.

I block out several hours days in advance of
the due date. If I didn’t block out that time in advance,
I’d wind up desperately scribbling out copy minutes before
the due date.

Some years back, I was counseling a hypnotherapist new to his
practice. I shocked him when I told him to close his
practice for a day if he wanted to see more business
success. I suggested that instead of seeing clients that
he devote an entire day to “marketing”. This was a day that
he was to call patients, visit health foods stores, give
speeches, and his charity work.

Most of these important tasks weren’t getting done
because his time was eaten by talking to patients.
his little extra time to promote his business
paid him back in huge dividends. He had to block
out time for himself, so that he could accomplish this.

I’m often asked about how I manage to do as much writing as
I do, along with everything else I juggle. There are two
answers. First, I write for at least two hours every
morning, no matter what. The first hour of my morning, I
write. At home, on the road, weekdays, or weekends, it
doesn’t matter. Tired or not, inspired or not, it doesn’t
matter. Second, I block time, often weeks, occasionally
months in advance, as appointments with myself-just as I
would keep an appointment with a client.

Here is another power technique is to minimize any
unplanned activity. By reducing unscheduled time and
unplanned activity, you automatically reduce waste. If you
look carefully, you’ll see that most people just sort of
show up.

They arrive at the office, at work, and react to situations.
If you press them for their day’s plan, you’ll find they
may have only one or two scheduled activities-one of which
is usually lunch-and maybe a few things on a vague
things-to-do-list. All the unscheduled time somehow gets
used up, but if you again press them at the end of the day,
or better yet, at the end of the week, they cannot tell you
where it went. The person who cannot tell you where his or
her time goes is forever destined to be unpubished.

Ideally, have your day scheduled out by the half hour, from
start to finish. I recommend blocking out each hour into
four, 15 minute segments. At the top of each hour make it
a point to see how many of your most important items you
can clear. Start your planning with 15 minutes.

Why not try to plan for just one week?

It is a cliché, that those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Cliché
or not, it is worth remembering and worth taking the time
to plan. When you plan, you free up mental energy that is
pulling on you because you don’t have a clear direction.
When this happens, practically no writing gets done.

Inner Head: Ear Worms & Audio Memes

Memes

Memes are “neurological instruction code” of behavior that is
passed on from person to person, replicating itself like a virus.
The key is that they are self replicating!

Pronounced like “dreams”, memes are snippets of memory stored in
brains and passed on by imitation or duplication. Examples are
tunes, fads, catch-phrases, slogans, culture, superstition,
customs, mass hysteria, and so forth.

Audio Memes

Audio memes are neurological code in the output form of sound.
For example, a huge sample of adult Americans would likely know
the name and subsequent notes to the song, Don’t Worry Be Happy,
after hearing just the first distinctive note!

Why? It’s an audio meme.

Ear Worms

Ear worms are metaphorical creatures in the form of sound. They
have a life of their own, and they infect humans much like audio
memes. The difference is that they don’t stop playing (the tune)
inside a person’s head. They just keep going, and going, and
going…

Earworm: (EER.wurm) n. A song or tune that repeats over and over
inside a person’s head. Also: ear-worm, ear worm.

Sound Advice

It is apparent, that sounds can drive us crazy. Sounds can drive
us “sane”, too. Sounds can affect the emotional fabric of our
lives, psychologically (mood music), kinesthetically (dance
music), and possibly spiritually (alpha-theta combinations found
in advanced states of meditation).

Like music, brain wave patterns are measured in frequencies, or
pulses of sound. It is a vitally significant breakthrough that
you can now utilize sound in ways to most benefit your own well
being and development.

Imagine what it must be like to synchronize your brain wave
patterns with that of a Zen master during meditation. Well guess
what?

Creative genius has been brain-wave mapped, (want to hear it?),
to which you may synchronize your own!

Or would you instead prefer the sound of a loud jackhammer
pounding out the city life of sirens, automobile horns and
advertising jingles that just keep going and going and going?

If audio memes, ear worms, and background noise comprise your
daily dietary intake of “sound food” to your inner body…

…perhaps a more natural “junk-free” high purity resonance of
binaural sound frequencies can help clear up the clutter. There’s
a good list of users that would agree with these fascinating and
rejuvenating effects, like me.

In addition, some of the available programs take advantage of
these special frequencies to enhance certain experiences with
positive and healthful audio imagery. But it’s up to you which
you prefer.

Listening for a Change

If it turned out that when you got back to your room with these
CD’s, alone, and you absorbed these sounds and cheerfully
discovered, “This is exactly what I needed!” it would wonderfully
answer your curiosity, wouldn’t it?

And what does health food for your brain actually sound like?

Go to here:
http://www.neuroacoustic.com/soundstore/index.htm
Click to the left where it says Compact Disks, and then you’ll
get a selection under that to hear on-line samples.

I don’t know if you’ll notice that some of these sounds can
excite the neurological experience of deep pleasure, and they’re
a real ecstasy to find tooArticle Submission, because you can get high resonant
sensations in them for long periods of time.

(But I seriously hope the government doesn’t find a way to ban
some of these frequencies too soon.) Hear for yourself what I
mean. (Stereophones required)

Fear the Future? Don’t.

 by: Miami Phillips

In one sense there are three parts of our lives. Past, present and future. How each of these is viewed has huge consequences.

The past:If one looks back at the past for anything other than experience, the past can paralyze today. Many times our memories of events, and results from those events will seem relevant to a situation we might be facing today when in reality today’s situation is totally different. If we treat the current event like the remembered event, we probably have not addressed it correctly. Each problem, challenge, and situation today requires a fresh new outlook and solution. To be sure, we can use look at past experience for suggestions, but today’s solution will always be different.

The future:The future is not real. One of the biggest blocks to living a full life is to spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about the future. Many people fear an unknown future which makes it impossible to live today. This is especially true for those in business for themselves. When one is beginning a business, with no revenue, no customers and startup costs depleting financial reserves, fear of the future can be overwhelming. In fact, this fear can easily incapacitate one to the point that nothing at all gets done due to the ‘what if’ scenarios developing from visions of a horrible failure sure to come.

What if – I fail?

What if – no customers show up?

What if – I run out of money?

What if?

The cure for fear of the future is to keep reminding one’s Self to live in the present moment as much as possible. To fully focus on what is happening right now is challenging. When bank accounts are shrinking, customers and clients are slow to arrive, and the gut reaction is to extrapolate the current conditions into the future, fear has an opening and will take full advantage!

In the time it takes to think through the process and create this fabricated future, fear steps into a life and plays havoc. The truly sad part is many will create that fabricated future because they already believe it. They will unconsciously make choices to bring that future to reality.

The present:The present is a daily, minute by minute gift to us from the Universe. The present needs to be appreciated, caressed and cared for.

It is possible to break this vicious cycle of fear based on unreal projections of things that might happen..

  1. Understand the process. Be aware when it is happening to you.
  2. Create the future you want in your mind. (Visualization)
  3. Make a plan to achieve your future. What would you have to do in order to make it reality?
  4. Work your plan.
  5. Measure your progress and adapt your plan.
  6. Have faith in your Self and the Universal laws that will come to your aid.
  7. Stay in the present moment.

Being present is a learning process. Simply being is the first step in that process. To Be who you are comfortable being, and to Do what you love to do provides a very good foundation for the strength required to eliminate the fear of the future and to have faith in the present.

many it has been very elusive , leaving them to believe it is
a matter of luck or a gift.Success can be achieved by all , but
knowing how to achieve it puzzles many. Here are a few potholes on
your journey :

(1)People : During your journey , people’s opinions will have a
positive or negative impact on you. Some may say your dreams
are not worth trying for , or may want to discourage you.Others
will support and believe in your endeavors. The choice of which
you will pay attention belongs to you.

(2)Time : Time can be your friend or something that make your
dreams slip away.It is important to use your work time positively
, creatively and consistently to achieve success.Don’t waste your
time doing too much things that don’t produce results. To get
where you want to go , you need to practice efficient time
management skills.

(3) Knowledge :The possession of sufficient knowledge and
know-how is critical to you.But having this knowledge is useless
if it is not put to use.Remember , knowledge is potential power ,
the use of it is power.Learn all you can about your career ,the

your knowledge to good use.

(4) You : Yes You !! A lot of people don’t realise how much
control they have over their destiny .Yes , things might happen
that we don’t want or can’t understand. But the use of positive
thoughts and mindset is key.Look at the truly positive people
around you, do they act or think negatively ? I don’t think so !
Try not to procrastinate too much .Work consistently and
persistently on your goals to achieve success.

That’s it ! The following are just a few dreamslayers you need to
be aware of.Success can be achieved by all , but remembering
these pointers will bring you much closer to it.
